Maine Landscape
Since 2020, I have been painting in the Maine landscape, attuned to the change in seasons, weather and in the trees around me. The trees have their own personas, and more and more the communicative aspect of the landscape has enchanted me. The paintings, often plunged in the utter newness of not knowing where one is, are done from life amidst the bugs and the wind and the sun. I aim to paint from the landscape point of view rather than thinking of perspectival distance, and to see each plant as part of an environment. Confusions of figure and ground correspond to the color choices and mark making of nature itself.
